Skin Rejuvenation through the Micro Laser Peel Resurfacing
If your skin is has laxity, scars, fine wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, actinic keratosis, stretch marks, birthmarks, blotchy, sun damaged skin the Micro Laser Peel Treatment could benefit you. It is an ablative laser that restores and improves the skins appearance and texture producing a younger, smoother complexion.
Micro Laser Peel Treatment produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment in your skin, known as microscopic treatment zones. This treatment eliminates old epidermal cells. It also penetrates deep into the dermis to repair the skin. This laser treatment is used on specific and targeted areas, allowing the Doctor to really focus on the problem areas. By treating in this manner it allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body's natural healing process to create new, healthy tighter tissue to replace skin imperfections.
Overview of this amazing laser:
At your initial consultation, your physician will determine the best treatment plan for your desired results. Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart, but this will be based on each individual goals and sensitivity of the skin. Results are immediate and progressive. Optimal improvement is usually visible in about 2 to 3 months. Because Micro Laser Peel Treatment spares healthy tissue there is a quicker recovery.
Preparing for Treatment:
Micro Laser Peel Treatment is performed in the office. The procedure takes between 20 to 25 minutes. There is typically 7-10 days of downtime depending on the strength of the treatment. After 3-4 days, one should be able to cover the treated areas with make-up. It is important to schedule the treatment when you have a couple of days for downtime as you will be red. If there is only a small window of downtime a more gentle strength can be used.
What Happens After Treatment:
You will experience a sunburn sensation on the treated skin and it will be red. There will be little white dots on the face where the Micro Laser Peel was directed. These will disappear in a few hours to a couple of days. There may be mild swelling that will resolve in 2 to 3 days. Again depending on the treatment strength determined for each individual the recovery time may be less or more.
Immediately after the treatment a calming moisturizer will be applied to the skin. It is recommend purchasing a post laser kit in the office which contains calming, soothing, and repairing products to decrease the healing time of the skin.
You may apply make-up, a mineral make-up is recommended, soon after treatment. A few days- a week of downtime are recommended, depending upon their skin condition, strength, and treatment. Please consult our physicians to understand how Micro Laser Peel Treatment will fit into your schedule.
Following the post-care instructions as directed by the Doctor will expedite the healing and improve the final result. These generally include; avoiding picking at the skin, rubbing the skin with rough towels, having any sun exposure, and using the recommended products.
New epidermal skin develops within 24 hours. The process of skin repair varies with each individual but generally involves bronzing and flaking.
Bronzing: Your skin will have a bronze appearance that lasts anywhere from hours to days, depending on your treatment level.
Flaking: Your skin will naturally and vigorously exfoliate as new skin replaces dead tissue. Flaking is similar to that of minor sunburn, but without the associated pain. Use of a moisturizer will mask the appearance of flaking.
Sunscreen: Be sure to use sunscreen at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure during both the healing phase and for several months after treatment. Apply a moisturizing sun block with an SPF of at least 30-plus. For added protection, use wide-brimmed hats when in direct sunlight.
Over the following weeks and months, the body repairs the deeper dermal tissues that have been affected by the Micro Laser Peel treatment, producing longer beneficial changes associated with a healthy, youthful appearance.
Common Questions
What is Micro Laser Peel Treatment?
Micro Laser Peel Resurfacing is a laser treatment that restores and improves the appearance and texture of the skin. This laser treatment is used on specific and targeted areas, allowing the Doctor to really focus on the problem areas. By treating in this manner it allows the skin to heal much faster using the body's natural healing process to create new, healthy, tighter tissue to replace skin imperfections.
How is Micro Laser Peel different from other laser treatments?
Micro Laser Peel treatment goes deeper than other lasers such as the Profractionated laser. It is in the ablative laser family, as are many fraxel type lasers, however, it is stronger and treats deeper. Ablative laser treatment involves vaporization of entire layers of skin cells at very high temperature. This treatment is very effective; however, it may require a longer recovery. The non-ablative laser treatment family, such as skin tightening, Thermage™, Velasmooth™ and photofacials tightens and corrects pigment changes on the surface of the skin, without going down into the skin. Both types of lasers are effective, but the non-ablative family may take longer to get results for certain problems such as wrinkles.
How does Micro Laser Peel work?
Micro Laser Peel is designed to target aging, damaged, or discolored skin by targeting portions of specific damaged tissue.
What are the benefits of Micro Laser Peel Treatments?
Micro Laser Peel treatments target specific problem areas and targets deeper into the skin than other ablative lasers such as the profractionated lasers. Visible results are accelerated with this laser.
What are the risks of Micro Laser Peel Treatments?
A sun burned feeling, mild swelling, and redness are the most common side effects from this treatment. If swelling does occur, it is minimal and will subside within a day or two. Redness may occur and will fade gradually. The sun burned feeling on the skin will fade gradually usually in a couple of hours, and the recommended products will soothe this much faster. There is a minimal risk of infection or scarring.
How many treatments will I need?
Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. Depending on the individual and the strength of treatment determined for each patient this can vary. Results are immediate and progressive. Optimal improvement is usually visible in about 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allows for complete healing and replacement of damaged tissue with new collagen and elastin, and viable healthy skin cell growth.
How are Micro Laser Peel Treatments performed?
The procedure takes between 20 to 25 minutes for a full face and longer for more areas. First, the Doctor or the nurse will review the medical history of the patient, consent will be signed and questions will be answered. The eyes of all individuals in the room are protected with special goggles and the treatment begins. Numbing cream is typically applied for most individuals. Immediately after a soothing moisturizer will then be applied to the skin.
Is Micro Laser Peel Treatment painful?
Most patients describe the treatment as having a hot "prickling" sensation. A cooling device will be used on the skin through the duration of the treatment and the patient has the option of a numbing cream to be applied before the treatment.
What should I expect after the first Micro Laser Peel Treatment?
During the first few hours after treatment, your skin may feel as though it is sunburned, and it will appear pink or red in color. If you are a woman, a mineral make-up can be worn to reduce the sunburned appearance. We have licensed medical esthesticans on staff to help you with your skin care color match. Your skin will naturally bronze over the next week. Then your skin will flake and exfoliate gently. This process can be accelerated with the booking of a microdermabrasion in a few days after healing. Using a prescribed moisturizer will help reduce the healing process. Most people have this done on a Friday and return to their regular activities on Monday.
What precautions should I take after treatment?
Wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher twice a day is especially important. Avoid direct sun exposure during the healing process. Wearing wide brimmed hats is highly recommended as well.
